Elected to the Continental Congress, he also helped negotiate the Treaty of Paris with Great Britain, ending the American Revolution. Serving as governor of New York State, he was an advocate of a strong national government. (1745-1829) (Pg. 167) In 1794 he was sent to London to try and avert war between England and the United States. When in negotiations, he was betrayed by Hamilton (who told the British Jay’s strategy), and ended up making a very weak and unpopular pact with the British. There were positive effects though; because Spain was afraid of a possible Anglo-American alliance, Spain signed Pinckney’s Treaty with the U.S., giving it everything it asked for, including free navigation of the Mississippi, the right of deposit at New Orleans, and the territory of western Florida. However, the French were enraged with Jay’s Treaty, and viewed it as a violation of the Franco-American Treaty of 1778. All of this tension with the French led to the XYZ Affair.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10232029618811109224noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3937950922090091959.post-50361212614537787672014-01-24T23:46:00.205-05:002014-01-24T23:46:00.205-05:00OMGGGG Melisssa plzzz slow down, i cant keeep up l...OMGGGG Melisssa plzzz slow down, i cant keeep up lol, jk GOOd job!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14629908370895197091noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3937950922090091959.post-25684677845115289442014-01-24T23:45:27.476-05:002014-01-24T23:45:27.476-05:00Next: John Jay

Afterwards, she boasted that her beliefs came directly from a revelation from God.
